Businessman Richard Colton amassed a rather special car collection in his lifetime - and he’s left two of the finest, a pair of Ferraris, to Britain’s lifeboat charity in his will.
Northamptonshire-based Colton, who died in March 2015 aged 82, has donated his 1960 Ferrari 250 GT SWB and 1967 Ferrari 275 GTB/4 to the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI).
The keen member of the Ferrari Owners’ Club wanted the pair to raise money for a new lifeboat named after him and his late wife Caroline.

Auction specialist H&H Classics, which is handling the sale for the RNLI at a sale on 14 October 2015, said other cars in the Colton collection include a Ferrari 550 Maranello, Jaguar E-Type 'Lightweight Evocation’ by standard-setting model specialist Bryan Wingfield and a Jaguar XK120 Fixedhead Coupe.
Recent sales suggested the cars could raise as much as £8 million for the maritime charity.
‘These stunning motor cars have been with Richard Colton for 40 years and meant a very great deal to him so we are absolutely committed to realising the maximum amount for the cars,’ said Simon Hope, chairman of H&H Classics. ‘It promises to be an historic sale.’
